Panzerschreck #13

Panzerschreck #13 (Winter 2004-05) contains three wargames.  TSARITSYN is a two-player tactical level (battalion/regiment) game which simulates the Russian Civil War battle of 1919.  Here, the Whites attack the Reds near the fortified city on the Volga know by a different name in a later war -- Stalingrad. Units and rules cover infantry, cavalry, tanks, armored trains, Volga gunboats, more.  (Includes map, 90 counters, rules).  Designed by James Meldrum, developed by Gary Graber.

ASSAULT ON CHERBOURG is a two-player operational level (brigade/division)  game covering the American drive through the bocage toward the French port of Cherbourg after the Normandy invasion in June, 1944.  Daily turns, US airpower, supply, command control, more.  (Includes map, 36 counters, rules.)  Designed by Gary Graber.

GRAF SPEE is a World War II tactical naval Mini-Sim game, pitting the German pocket battleship Graf Spee versus three Royal Navy cruisers off the coast of South America, December, 1939.  Designed by Gary Graber.
We're pleased with the appearance with this issue, particularly the quality of the game components.  Game maps were done by Art Lupinacci, are in color, on thicker glossy stock.  Unit counters are also on the same kind of stock.  While most will still want to mount the counters before cutting them out, they are firm enough that this is not absolutely necessary.  ("All may, most will, none must" is how I'd answer the question "Do the counters need to be mounted?")   All the games in this issue stand firmly within the Panzerschreck tradition of fun, playable, wargames.
Besides the games, there is so much more.  As with each previous issue, this edition is filled with wargame articles and variants.  These include Solitaire Wargaming Theory by William Driscoll, variants for Eagles (Columbia), Rail Baron (Avalon Hill), Battlecards (DGA),  Rising Sun (Avalon Hill), Dreadnoughts & Battlecruisers (Minden), Retro (Minden)and Luftwaffe (Avalon Hill), and an interview of noted wargame personality Richard Berg.  When you include the usual columns in the mix (Opening Rounds, Observation Post, and Letters from the Front), you have a 68-page issue literally filled with gaming fun.

If you're new to Panzerschreck, we're sure you'll love what it has to offer.  If you're a returning veteran to the magazine, we're sure you'll feel the same.  Either way, you'll want to check issue #13 out!
